SET and CONNECTIONS

SET

SET

SET opens the station’s settings. Rows that open something, a keyboard, a question or another screen, end in an arrow, ›; the others change where they are.

  • MYCALLSIGN and MYGRID, your callsign and locator;
  • WIFI, the network the radio is on. A press lists the networks it hears and joins the one you choose (First time setup, “Join your WiFi”). In the GTK client it is there only on the radio’s own screen;
  • UPDATE, which brings the radio up to the newest zbitxre; see Updating zbitxre;
  • FT8_OPS and FT8_REPLY, how FT8 is worked;
  • CONNECTIONS, the next screen.

The front panel’s SET also has Date/Time, to give the radio the time when it has none from the network, the panel’s firmware version, and BOOTSEL, which, after asking, makes the panel a USB drive to copy new firmware onto, with a USB cable in the micro-USB port marked CAT. Updates do not need it: they give the panel its firmware by themselves.

CONNECTIONS

CONNECTIONS, with a made-up key

CONNECTIONS is what the radio has to do with the world outside it:

  • RADIO_KEY, at the top: the radio’s key for my.sbitx.net, twelve letters in fours such as abcd-jklm-wxyz. You type it at the website once, to add the radio. A press asks whether to make a NEW KEY, for when the old one has gone where it should not; the new key then has to be typed in at the website;
  • REMOTE: ON lets the radio be operated from my.sbitx.net;
  • STREAMING: ON lets anyone listen to the radio on the map, and see what it copies in FT8;
  • BLUETOOTH: ON plays the radio’s sound into a paired Bluetooth earphone or speaker;
  • CAT: ON lets other programs on your network set the frequency and mode and key the radio, through Hamlib’s NET rigctl.

Under the switches are what the radio has to say of each, which can be read but not changed: REMOTE_STATUS (ONLINE and the radio’s name when all is well), VOIP_STATUS, BLUETOOTH_STATUS, SOUND_CARD_STATUS and CAT_STATUS.

REMOTE and STREAMING start ON on a new radio. CONNECTIONS is set at the radio only: the remote GTK client and the web page do not show it.
